Audacity is actually pretty cool!

So, the other day, I decided to try and make some music on audacity.

I started off with some sine waves. A---C-G-A---C-G- etc
Then I added some white noise, every third beat, and then later on, on every "and" on the fourth beat.
Then I added a tempo of white noise, tick, tick, tick, tick...
Then a added a "Risset drum" (?) which generates a drum sound from different frequencies of waveforms. I put this at the start of every bar.
Then I went on to the melody. I made it out of sine waves, and then started to add tremolo at different frequencies. Then came some more sine waves to add distortion to the original one, and some square tremolo, adjust the timing of all the elements coming and going, and hey presto, I just made some techno music! :D

You can check out the finished product .

Society and Sexuality

Imagine a society where there were no scangers hanging around Dublin to annoy you because you're wearing a bathrobe. Imagine that you could wear fur ears and tails without weird looks, or have a fez without quizzical glances. This, in the eyes of many, is the ideal society. Complete and utter tolerance.
But this society does not exist. There are still people who dare show off their eccentricity, but it does not receive the right treatment. So what must one do?
Should we throw away our bowler hats and towels, and fit in so as receive the tolerance that we should receive anyway? Or should we proudly wear our strangeness, regardless of how others view us?
Personally, I would prefer to have people snickering at me if it meant I could snicker back at them with a top hat on my head and a cane in my hand.
But alas, this is not the end of our problems. If, let's say, a real proper eejit goes and makes a... Hurtful comment, what should our action be against it?
On one hand, you could ignore it. Again, this is my personal preference. If someone is stupid enough to laugh at another person wearing suspenders and a shirt, then they surely don't deserve attention themselves, especially if it's what they're looking for; They deserve to be ignored, in my opinion.
But then again, giving them a piece of your own mind also has it pros. If we let these people harass the odd and different, they will continue it, some think. I don't know whether this is true or not, but it is a point to be made. And the idea is that if these people know we can retaliate, they'll be less likely to do it again. But, this is assuming the reasons behind why they do it. Personally, I believe that these people are a type of sadist, and get enjoyment out of causing us discomfort. It could also be that it's to impress other friends, or even that they want to show that they're superior to us somehow. Depending on the reason behind their actions, retaliating could do good, or do damage.
Look, I could go on. What I'm trying to say is this;
Society is stupid.

In fact, society is so ridiculously stupid, that it makes people afraid to make it public whether they like guys or girls. This, in my opinion, is completely ludicrous. Why the hell should anyone care what gender you like? At what point did people turn around and say that gays, lesbians and bisexuals weren't "cool"? It seems to me that going against what you're told is what is generally viewed as "cool". We were told from a young age that smoking is bad for you, that it will be the death of you, and yet I see 14 and 15 year olds smoke. We see that alcohol could ruin your life, yet people just don't seem to listen. But when a religion preaches for two thousand years that gays are bad, and people hold prejudice against them for centuries, arresting and killing them, does our generation go and say that "actually, being gay is no big deal, I'm cool with it"? No, it continues on this outrageous idea that gays and lesbians and bisexuals are bad people.
Now, I'm all for letting people have their own opinions, but if you really have this hatred of any sexuality other than being straight, at least keep it to yourself. And as much as I urge you to accept others for who they are, I can't force you. And as for those of you who DO accept others; you're cool.

Ever heard of "Freedom of speech, thought and religion"?

The school had it's annual Beginning of Year Mass yesterday. All of the Roman Catholics in the school have to go to this, but the people of other religions are allowed to stay back in our study hall until near the end when awards are given out.
There is an official register of the religions of the students in our school. I am down as "Church of Ireland", and so am exempt from the mass. However, a friend of mine, who went to the study hall, was on this register as "Roman Catholic", though she is actually atheist; Brid.
In school today, Brid was called out to the principal's office, Ms. Threadgold. We watched her leave the classroom.
About 15 minutes later, she arrived back. Her eyes were bloodshot. She didn't say much.
After class, she told us that Ms. Threadgold ate the head off of her, saying that Brid was a "Disgrace to the school and to the Catholic church". She was then told to apologize to her form teacher, and to one of the nuns in our school, Sr. Madelaine.
In the afternoon, when school finished, and Brid had already apologized to her form teacher, she went up to Sr. Madelaine to apologize.
Sr. Madelaine was the person that told Threadgold about Brid not being at the mass. And she actually apologized to Brid, as she didn't want things to get this far out of control, saying  she never should have mentioned it.

There are a few things that bother me about this.
Firstly, as students, we are actually NOT allowed to change our religion on the official register. So basically, if your parents decide to force their religion into your life, there's not a single thing you can do to change it.
Secondly, Brid was singled out to be given out to, even though there are DOZENS of students who stayed home yesterday so that they would not have to go to mass. They have received no punishment, and have not been shouted at for quarter of an hour either. And whereas Brid was there at the end of the mass, for the awards being handed out, these other people weren't there at all.
And thirdly, the school can supposedly force you to do things depending on your religion. Which, in my opinion, in just plain wrong.

Awesome!

Erm... I've had this blog since May 2009. And since then, I have gotten 934 views.
But considering I've had it for about 2 years and 4 months, or 28 months, this would seem to go for about 33 posts a month (Woo windows calculator).

BUT.

Last month, I got not 33, but 132 views;
Refer back to title.

So basically, thanks! Whoever you are, reading my blog, I thank you for adding 1 to the little counter on the top right.

:D

EDIT:

It wasn't last month I got those views; it was SO FAR THIS MONTH.
Also, it's gone up to 160 :D

Solving a mystery because it isn't.

In chemistry in school at the moment, we're doing forensic science. And as part of this module, we have to "Solve a murder". A businessman has been shot at point blank range, there is some evidence around the room he was shot it.
We were given 5 suspects:

The son, the daughter, the housemaid, the gardener, and the handyman:

Where are you coming from?

As much as you may comment as much as you like with answers, the question is rhetorical.
Looking over my stats, I noticed something... Interesting, lets say. The "Traffic Source" list's two first links were both to my friend Josie's blog, Here. So, er, thanks for that :P
And then my third source of views was from my vlog, Here, which I suppose I was half expecting.

And then I'm guessing many of you came here from facebook.

I'm not really sure this has a point.

Ok, I've had enough.

I have been waiting for MONTHS for some of the blogs I follow to update.

I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And did they update?
Lemme check NO.

So in a fit of utter frustration, I'm going to update mine.

Summer is nearly at its end, sadly. The trees of rich green are slowly decaying and dropping their crisp brown leaves to the ground, the weather losing its summer shine... And worst of all, school. But not for another week or two.

After being in france for a week or so with my friend Macdara and his family, we traveled across the border into Spanish territory. We parked our rented car in an underground car park and surfaced, looking at the building we were under.

The Salvidor Dalí Museum.

And so we went to the main desk, got tickets, and strolled inside.

AAAAHHH.
I DON'T EVEN.

So after our near torturous visit, we left Spain, on a plane, back to Dublin airport, where we were driven home.

Two days later I arrived in DCU for a three week course of awesomeness.

CTYI was set up many years ago by Colm O'Reilly, and since its establishment, some pretty crazy things have happened in there.
Firstly, you have all the different traditions, you have all the memorable places, the discos, the trips on Saturdays and Sundays, canteen food, and the ultimate week as well. You have Tranny Tuesday, Pirate Wednesday, Dressing gown Thursday, and Formal Friday. You have the activities, you have quotes, you have all the wonderful notes at the end (Thanks to all who signed mine :P) And you have the reunions that follow.

But most importantly, you have the friends you make there, and the memories you share together, and nothing, in my opinion, can beat that.

Well, maybe Fiachra.

Hey... Got any grapes?

These internet songs are all over the place at the moment!

There's The Duck Song,
Nyan Cat,
The Abridged Series Joey's remix of nyan cat, Nyeh Cat,
Etc.

They're taking over goddamnit!

But I can safely say that none of them will EVER be like the theme for "Duck Tales".
I'm not going to post a link to the theme from "Duck Tales".
Not even a little bit.
If you listen to it once, it will NEVER leave your head.
EVER.
EVER.
EVER!

So I was in Wexford today, with friends and such, and I bought a book in The Book Centre, called "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness. My friend has told me it is on par with the chaos walking trilogy, so I absolutely had to buy it.
Which I did.

I then proceeded to leave the book in the shop, forget about it, remember it, then get back to the shop as fast as possible, to get there where it's been closed for half an hour.

Well, I say "As fast as possible"...
Coughcoughkitty'sareallyslowwalkercoughcough :P

But anyway... An email was sent to them, so it should be ok...

I am so into techno at the moment! I've fallen in love with The Prodigy, and am listening to them, The Quick Brown Fox, Deadmau5, etc ALL THE TIME.

Do you know why?

Cos they're freakin epic.

NEW DR WHO EPISODE OMGOMG OOOO MMMM GGGG freaky...

Well, that's enough rambling for today.

Winning.

Ok, so my friend introduces me to this band; Arcade Fire.
That band is WIN.
I mean, seriously, their singer's name is actually Win Butler.

WIN BUTLER.

Which is why, earlier today (saturday) I made a cover of one of their best (my opinion) songs, . You can find it , or on my youtube channel, .
Subscribe, comment, like, etc. If you please :3

I must leave you now, as I am watching Scott Pilgrim, but I just want to direct your attention to my friend . She is epic, and awesome, and stuffs etc.

You should follow her, actually...

DO IT. (Frank is watching you...)

New blogs ahoy!

This is my first post in...what, six or seven weeks?!
...
I really need to make a bigger effort with this...

But back to the why of the title.

A friend of mine, George, has started (or more restarted) his . He used to make short reviews of... stuff.

Just read them yourself. :P

But anyway, he's part of this youtube channel, . They do reviews on (yes, you guessed it!) airsoft guns! Him and co. of this channel are trying to become youtube partners, and have set a goal of 100 subs, so any help would be much appreciated :D

-----

Recently, I made a deadmau5 remix on youtube , which is, if I do say so myself, pretty shweet. So, you know... go check it out... or something...
Yeah...

I like .

Vlog time!

The vlog is now out, though quite late...
Link to it here.
Don't mind the drumming in the background...

Saturday, March 12, 2011

So I haven't posted in a while. EVEN THOUGH I just made my comeback...
Meh, que sera sera.
I might be making a vlog, dunno yet though... If anyone showed enough interest I would (hint hint)

Warthog: Don't even ask.

I think my blog posts are taking longer and longer to be released.
But I suppose that's because I have less to talk about these days...
My life wasn't always this boring!

But considering it is, I thought I needed a new hobby. You know, to make my life more interesting.
Sadly, I haven't a clue what hobby I could do.

Post in the comments, please.

PLEASE.

Anyway, [subject change] Elder scrolls V Skyrim is going to be out on the 11th November this year!
Or, if you prefer, 11-11-11...
But dates beside, it is going to be SO EPIC.

Hmm, I think I've been thinking about making a vlog too much, I was about to say "Link in the dooblydoo"

But anyway, link to it's trailer here.
.
And link to two other blogs of relative awesomeness, ACarnivalOfSorts and TheIndefiniteCollab.
Oh, and if you didn't know, that's my sister in the second last video so far (1 O'clock saturday) entitled "I am NOT a little teapot"

She smashes an egg against her head.

She is silly.

Anywho, that's all from me for now.

I, too, have returned...

As the title derptacularly suggests, I'm back... And I'm not the only one. My friend over at A Carnival Of Sorts has restarted his blogging, with an awesome batman comic...

And I SUPPOSE I have to mention that my sister drew it...

Sigh.

But anyway, onto the regular subjects.

The lego warthog... hasn't really changed in status.
I've made some minor changes to the wheel steering mech, but that's it...

Then there's MINECRAFT.

If you don't know what minecraft is, DO.
It is a game made up of 3D blocks 1m x 1m x 1m, which are different materials, such as dirt, stone, wood, etc.
You can pick up and place these blocks, you can build stuff, and you can make tools and weapons to make better stuff.

But first, you dig a hole in the ground, and stay there for the night, because of the kamikaze shrubs called creepers.

Any true minecraft fan will flinch if you start hissing close enough to them, as they will think you are a creeper.

But anyway, it's awesome. And I will probably be posting stuff from it at irregular intervals.

Oh, yeah, I'm on mid-term now :D

And earlier today I got my music practical pieces sorted out...
On the piano I'll be playing the Super Mario theme, and River Flows In You,
And on the saxomaphone I'll be playing Off To California and Take 5...

Shouldn't be too bad...

Oh, check out my friend Josey's blog, Hate To Be Doing Physics, as she has been doing some funny stuffs...

Hey hey, I got Halo Reach... Those elites are IMPOSSIBLE.... Or more IMPASSIBLE...

They just won't bloody well die!!!

Well, that's all from me...

Goodbye for now

As the title suggests, I will be gone for the next good while.

Before I get into the really bad news, I would just like to give you a quick progress report;

I have started on the warthog turret, and nearly finished, I just need to finish off the mechanism connecting one of the motors to the turret to change the elevation. The barrel even spins!

And I also started work on the wheel mechanism, because, unless you are unfamiliar with the warthog (in which case I advise you to GET HELP), it has a very peculiar way of attaching the wheels to the body.

Now, for the extremely depressing news:

A very close friend of mine had a heart attack the other day. He is now in hospital, on life support, while they run some tests on him, so they can see if he's eligible to donate organs.

After that, unless they find out why he had a heart attack, and they can fix whatever went wrong.....
They turn off the life support.

I won't be posting for a long while, it might be months before I get back to it.

I bid you farewell.

I do not like it when I'm pressured into impossibility

As the title suggests, I don't like pressure. The stress kind of pressure, that is. I'm indifferent about physical pressure, such as air pressure.
But back to the pressure at hand.
Our Irish teacher thinks I'm really nonsensical (I can understand), forgetful (I can completely understand), and that I never listen.

Back up a minute.

I may be slightly less comprehending of human speech patterns than most, but I don't never listen.

And now it's a "Do one more thing wrong and you've got detention" situation, and this pressures me into being awesome at everything about Irish for the next 6 months or so...

Not friggin' likely!

Mah Burthday

Finally I'm fifteen... It's been a long time coming... My friend has his birthday on 31st of December, so every year, on the first eleven days of January, he goes to me and says "Hey, when are you turning 16? Oh, that's right, you're only 14 now... And you're sixteenth birthday isn't until next year... You see, I'm turning sixteen this year... In fact, I'll be turning 17 next year."

And so, considering this, I stand up straight, and looking down at him with my one inch height advantage.

What else can I do?

Well, anyway, I managed to escape my birthday beatings because, sadly, I am very sick. It's twenty past one and I'm still in my pyjamas...

But health in general aside, there has been something that I've noticed that's been bothering me...

When we txt ppl, we tend 2 abbr. wrds so dat it dosnt take as long. But sumtin dat anoys me is when sum1 txtin u spels a word diff, w/ out makin it shortr... like "teh" or "evar".... or my personal least favourite, when you spell "your" with a "'re" at the end when you're not supposed to... It's teh biggest waste of you're time evar!

Side note:
Still taking suggestions for song to play/sing on Friday, if you have any ideas, post them in the comments below ↓

Rubik's Cubes or Rubiks' Cubes?

Now, if you don't already know, I am a big fan of the whole Rubik's cube franchise. I am able to solve a 2x2, a 3x3, a 4x4 and a 5x5 of the original cubes. I am also able to solve a Rubik's magic, though few people have heard of it.
I also used to know how to solve a pyraminx, though I haven't used one in so long I've mostly forgotten.

But there was always something that bugged me when talking about the spelling.
At first, everyone just calls it a 'rubix' cube, with an 'x' at the end, but eventually you realise that it ISN'T SPELLED LIKE THAT.

But over the years, I have seen another dilemma.

If you are talking about more than one Rubik's cube, how do you spell it?

Is it "Rubik's cubes", implying that "Rubik's cube" is all one noun and should be treated like one, or is it "Rubiks' cubes", which would be the proper English for ownership of plural nouns?

But all plurality aside, if there is anyone out there who strives to be a good solver, great tutorials on solving the 3x3 and the 4x4 were made by Dan Brown, a famous youtuber.

By the way, there's a pun at the end of the intro to the 4x4 video, he says it 'wants revenge', but he fails to mention that the 4x4 is commonly called the Rubik's revenge...

One other thing before I go;
Tony Fisher is a professional  puzzle modder, you should really check out his videos.
And also, there is no stopping how far they will go: Do want, but it costs a fortune.

I shall leave you now, but with a warning: NEVER attempt to solve an evil twin.

Just don't.

It's not safe.

Tempermentality

Thanks to the fact that I only took the pics of the gun at about 00:45, I wasn't able to put them on my past post, because blogger does NOT like iPod touches.

It wouldn't even let me scroll down through the post I had made earlier, and so I could not put the pics on that post, but even worse, I couldn't close that bracket I accidentally left at the end. Gah!

And so, I am typing this up on my iPod, and will be very brief, as it isn't easy to type on an iPod.
Firstly, here are the promised pics of the gun:

...

It's right about now that I realise that you can't upload pics from your iPod onto blogger...

Goddamnit...

Well, I can still plug it into the computer and then upload the pics, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow...

But until then, at least I can do the second thing:

)

Disputatio tibi posterius.

[Important edit]

Finally on the computer, so now I can put up those pics:

Gun.

Well, once I had finished with the snowmobile, I built a lego model of my technology project, but while building it, I had already started on another project.

Now, for a good while, I've been wanting to make a gun that shoots bricks, not elastic bands, and so i started work on one, finally finishing it just today. It has a good range for a lego gun, it's a semi-auto, though at the moment I've only found three elastic bands the right size to work in it...
They have to be big enough not to snap when I load it, but small enough to have good power in it, and so they are very hard to find in the right size...

So since I only have 3 elastic bands, I only made a magazine to house 3 bullets
When need be, I'll build a bigger one...

It also has a scope, though the gun isn't entirely accurate, considering that it's MADE OF LEGO, but it works pretty well.

I mean, I can hit England on a map of Europe from about 2 metres away, without missing and hitting Ireland.
I think if a gun can hit England, it's a good gun.

Good times, good times...

Anyway, I've decided to make my posts, at the most, the length of the compose box, so I'm gonna finish up by asking any new comers to click follow, and comment, and I shall leave you with some pics of the gun (Since I got my Ipod touch, I've a camera to take pics with, and so here they are:
